It's time for Art of the Week. I chose this week's offering because I'm so ready for Fall that it hurts. We're having an unseasonably warm, dry September, so I'm getting a little impatient for my favorite season to arrive. Here you go:
AUTUMN
by Alphonse Mucha,
my favorite Art Nouveau artist
AUTUMN
by Russian Impressionist painter, Piotr Nilus,
1893
This one captures the chill in the air. Nearly all the leaves are gone. Autumn on the cusp of winter. November, maybe.

Autumn. How I anticipate thee, long for thy long gusts of wind to fondle my scarves and tease my hair.
Summer. It's been fun but nothing lasts forever. I think it is time for us to choose seperate paths.
thanks for the paintings. :D
Autumn is also my favorite season, hands-down.
So I shall leave here Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, to honor this wonderful season, and your delicious art.
Autumn
Thou comest, Autumn, heralded by the rain,
With banners, by great gales incessant fanned,
Brighter than brightest silks of Samarcand,
And stately oxen harnessed to thy wain!
Thou standest, like imperial Charlemagne,
Upon thy bridge of gold; thy royal hand
Outstretched with benedictions o'er the land,
Blessing the farms through all thy vast domain!
Thy shield is the red harvest moon, suspended
So long beneath the heaven's o'er-hanging eaves;
Thy steps are by the farmer's prayers attended;
Like flames upon an altar shine the sheaves;
And, following thee, in thy ovation splendid,
Thine almoner, the wind, scatters the golden leaves!
:)
The first one looks like summer to me and the second looks like winter. (Curses on the Texas heat which means we have little in the way of seasons.) I am definitely ready for cooler weather.

Little in the way of seasons, oh, yes. The way things are going, we in OK will jump from summer straight into winter, and no doubt just in time for holiday travel. When I lived in Indiana, I got to experience four seasons for the first time ever. Wow!
Thanks for the wonderful imagery, Taryn. And the poem, izzey. I love Longfellow.
I'm with ya on autumn. I deeply despise summer and hot weather in general. Definitely like it cooler...I can think more clearly, the very air seems clearer. We cooled off a little hear now it seems pretty warm again but I'm hoping that, as is usually the case, October will herald real fall.
I lived in Indiana for a little while too and in "Kentuckiana"...here in Georgia we sort of have 4 seasons but it was definitely more pronounced there. If we ever leave this area again it will definitely be northwards...
